What I Wish I Knew The First Time I stayed in a hostel

I’ll be honest with you. The first few times that I stayed in a hostel back in 2014, I did not have the slightest clue of what to do, what to bring.

For starters, I did not bring my own sheet liner or anything. Do you know how gross that truly is? I mean, I don’t know how often the hostel is cleaning and washing their sheets. Sure hostels provide you with sheets, but you do not know for real, if you are sleeping in someone elses dirt or filth.

Also, I probably should have brought some laundry sheets. I can’t believe I spent two months in Italy and did not wash my clothes once. Sure I brought like 2 suitcases full of clothing, but it would have been nice to have clean, fresh and crisp clothes that were warm, just out of the laundry machine to wear.

Also, I probably should have brought my own personal lock. Yes, many hostels come with lockers, and many hostels provide their own locks for you. However, they also have keys and are able to get into the locks. I would have felt much more safe and much more secure with my own personal lock that only I had the combo too.

What about you? Is there anything that you wish you knew before staying in a hostel? Any tips or suggestions? I can add them to this post. Comment below. I would love to hear your thoughts.
